Congrats to Victoria & Alpay!

I had the opportunity to work with Victoria for over a year on this gorgeous wedding. There are so many details I hope that I can hit on all of them in this blog entry. This is one of the few weddings were I truly felt the passion between the bride and groom. They are beautiful people inside and out! It was also a great opportunity to see new cultures mesh into one family, which is always a beautiful thing!

The wedding began in the beautiful St. Paul's Cathedral in Oakland where Victoria's sister was also married 11 years ago! What a family history and tradition in this church!

The reception was at the Concordia Club, which is a gorgeous venue not too far from the church. I loved it there! Unfortunately, Pitt has purchased this property and this is their "final" wedding season. Hopefully Pitt allows this venue to continue because it is just gorgeous and intimate!

This is a shot of the head table and the stage where Dr. Zoo set-up. The flowers were just breathtaking and done by DesignSpace.

Following Dr. Zoo playing, Istar, a local Turkish band picked-up where they left off for a Turkish After party. This was the sign that was displayed for guests to know to stick around!

Here is a quick shot of their unity candle which was brought from the church into the reception site for everyone to see!
Alpay's mom traveled from Turkey to be with her son during his wedding. She also brought with her, her receipie for Balkava! Alpay and Victoria worked to translate the receipie into English and the baker of the cake & cookie, Food Glorious Food, made the baklava from her receipie! They used this as their grooms cake and let me tell you, it was to0 die for!

Below is a quick shot of their "vintage" cake topper. Victoria, in trying to find the most perfect cake topper, purchased a few vintage toppers. She included these toppers in topiary's at the wedding. I loved this idea, and it was a wonderful detail!

The cake, pictured below, was made of fondant and was just to die for! It was made by Food Glorious Food!

Dr. Zoot provided the entertainment!

Victoria & Alpay danced their first dance with grace!

Instead of a traditional "cookie table" the bride opted to have a plate of cookies placed at each table. This was a great way to showcase the cookies without a whole table.

Sal, from Dr. Zoot even got in on dancing with the bride!

Istar and Bernie, a local belly dancer, got the crowd up and moving after Dr. Zoot wrapped up. This was sooo much fun!

July 11, 2009 I had the wonderful experience of being a friend and a wedding planner for John & Stephanie. They had a gorgeous 7/11 wedding in Pittsburgh. I was thrilled to be their guest, friend and planner. I am so happy for these two and can't wait to see what the future holds for them!

Stephanie chose to do a black and white wedding, sticking with those colors (no accent colors), each bridesmaid was able to chose their own gown and they accented this with each groomsmen receiving their own tie as a gift at the rehearsal dinner.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of working with Alle, Brian & their family. They are truly an amazing couple and they each have an unique sense of style, fashion and sophisication! Thank you so much for letting us be a part of your day! It was great to see everything come together so well! I met Alle and her mom about a year ago and we've been planning ever since! This black and white damask with lime green accents came together throughout the year and is truly one of the most gorgeous weddings I've seen!

The Summer of the Pittsburgh Cookie Table!!

Almost 60% of my weddings in some sort of fashion has a Cookie Table. A tradition that is so old it's hard to say how long it's been around. Almost every bride tells me that they are going to have a large or outrageous cookie table. Typically it ends up being 2- 8ft. tables that are decorated with mom's and grandma's alike yummy homemade traditional cookies.

Well the past two weekends the cookie tables have not only been creative, outrageous and large, but some of the best I've ever seen! And I've seen a lot of cookie tables in my day!

Two weeks ago at Jennifer & Darrell's wedding they actually hired a company that came in, and just decorated the cookie table. This cookie table was the LARGEST and most outrageous cookie table I have ever seen! Jennifer's mom handmade each individual cookie! They were just to die for! Here are some pictures of the most fantastic cookie table I have ever seen! (WARNING: IF YOU ARE HUNGRY, DON'T GO ANY FURTHER!)

Not only have I seriously had the largest cookie table I've ever had this year, but I've also had the most creative! Some brides are choosing to do "Candy Buffets" and these are great with cute little glass containers, adds an unique element to their weddings. However, my bride Lindsey decided to take a different approach to the candy and cookie tables. She purchased large glass containers, and made an unique and beautiful display that really added to her event!

While searching for unique jewelery for a client I cam across this great website that you can actually rent your jewelery! I'm Over it online is a great opportunity to rent gorgeous jewelery for a very low price! I love this idea and because it's so reasonably priced it will fit anyone budget. The best part is if you LOVE the item you can purchase it right from the site! If you don't love it, send it back! You can loan the items for 7, 14 or 30 days! What a great way to have something beautiful for that upcoming event or wedding! Here are some of their wonderful pieces:

The DIY Aisle Runner!

One of my favorite blogs, the Vintage Glam Blog offers great advice on a stylish, sophisticated and unique wedding. Many of my brides come to me needing great advice on how to make their wedding unique, sophisticated, but on a budget. Vintage Glam Blog offered a great way to DIY a great Aisle Runner and then use that same aisle runner for wall art!! What a great way to re-use some of your wedding items after the wedding! I love the idea of hanging this up anywhere in your new home together! Here are the details:

Step 1: purchased white muslin that measured 36″ wide. I used a bolt, but purchases as many yards to create the length you want.
Step 2: Layout the muslin and iron flat the section you wish to do the logo. I placed mine toward the bottom of the aisle runner.
Step 3: I purchased the stencil from Hobby Lobby. Arrange the stencil so that you will be able to fit two of them angled where the ends almost touch.
Step 4: Complete the circle by rotating the stencil around four times.
Step 5: For the initials, create your layout on the computer and print it. Place the paper under the fabric centered in the circle. You will be able to see the initials through the fabric.Trace the initials with paint. I used acrylic craft paint. Do the same thing for the date.
Step 6: The edges of the muslin are already serged all you have to do is serge or hem the top and bottom of the muslin.

After our wedding, I cut the logo from the aisle runner to create a wall hanging. I left enough room at the top and bottom to create a 2″ hem. Leave the ends open so that you can stick a curtain rod through.

Tiffany Cramer-Ray - Great Expectations Events - A++++++++++++++++++Another fantastic vendor. Towards the beginning of planning she helped us finalize our DJ search which landed us Dan from 5th Ace and closer to the wedding she helped us find Gwen from Creative Cakes, both reviews below. On top of that, she was willing to go ABOVE AND BEYOND with my wedding present from DH, but it fell through at the last minute. At the rehersal she ran it smoothly even with me being an hour late, don't ask. Also at the rehersal we found out that Dan couldn't find my processional song. I given up hope and just said that I'd walked down to whatever. Just before I walked down the aisle, Tiffany told me that she found it and downloaded it and sent it to Dan. Day of the wedding everything went perfect or at least if it wasn't we didn't know about it. Just before leaving the church after the ceremony, I asked her to stop and get me slippers since I left my reception shoes at home. She got me the cutest blue slippers that read "let it snow" on the bottom. It just felt good not having to think about anything from the rehersal on and I couldn't have done it without her.

What a great support you were to our wedding. You became an excellent sounding board and had great ideas. It put m eat ease to be able to discuss and share things with you for opinions along the way.

It was nice to have you during the day of our wedding, if anything needed attention you'd be there to take care of it. I was very confident in your ability to handle it. I felt as if you had the perfect combination of understanding and firmness. Everything went off without a hitch (guest shuttle, details, etc.) and that is a credit to Great Expectation Events! This weekend I was off to Dawn and Derrick's wedding. They had a wonderful celebration full of love, family and friends. We had so much fun getting to know Dawn and Derrick over the past year and a half. I got to know not only them, but also their family and friends. It was so much fun to finally see them tie the knot!

The bridesmaids wore different dresses that flattered their figures and their own personal style!

Dawn and Derrick are so in love! I dont' think I saw them apart all night! It was great to see them together!

Dawn and Derrick chose to do a wishing well as their guest book. It was a great way to gather advice from family and friends!

If you are looking for a GREAT DJ, Hire Dan from 5th Ace Entertainment. He's fun and classy!

When Derrick danced with his mom, it was very heartfelt!

The cake was from Creative Cakes by Gwen! Her cake looks as good as it tastes!

The couple exchanged vows at the Calvary United Methodist Church on the North Side. This church is GORGEOUS and has beautiful original Tiffany stained glass windows. If you are looking for a church, look no further, because they are great to work with!

"I had a lot of worries going into my wedding day, but Tiffany was not among them. I'm the type of person that stresses out and worries to the point of making myself sick, but with Tiffany involved I felt completely at ease throughout the whole day! I was a mess the day before the wedding, but as soon as I saw and talked to Tiffany at the rehearsal, all my concerns were eased.

My family was expecting me to be a complete basket case, but I knew that if I needed help with something, Tiffany would be there to help me out. My husband said that he is so glad we hired Tiffany because I was able to relax and enjoy the day, which made him be able to relax and enjoy the day. The few things that did pop up throughout the day, Tiffany handled with ease. I was able to completely enjoy my wedding day because Tiffany is so perfect at her job.

Congrats to Ben & Leslie!

I've been to slow to post this gorgeous wedding! On 10.25.08 I traveld to Heinz Chapel to assist in the coordination of Leslie & Ben's GORGEOUS wedding! Not only was it a gorgeous and heartfelt ceremony, but a fun reception!

Leslie also wins Bridemaid's dress of the year, they were fantastic!! They were my favorite bridemaid's dresses of the year!

I had so much fun working with the most organized bride ever! Leslie and Ben are a perfect match and I was thrilled to be a part of their day!

Reception sites take a lot to impress me and the Fox Chapel Country Club did just that! They were organized and their staff was fantastic. I really enjoyed working here and hope to be back someday, their room is just gorgeous!

Instead of having a ton of frames, Ben & Leslie had one digital picture frame that scrolled through lots of pictures. This was a great idea and a big hit among guests!

This was a centerpiece done for cocktail tables.

Ben & Leslie did a simple seating chart, which is elegant.

Thank you so much Leslie & Ben, you are FANTASTIC!!!

Yesterday was our first wedding anniversary! We had such a great wedding day, full of great memories and I found myself thinking of these memories all day yesterday. I often get asked how big and fancy my wedding is, and I normally tell people that we had a simple black and white wedding. It was just what we wanted and seriously the best day of our lives!

This past weekend I was thrilled to work with Kristy & Chris. They are truly an amazing couple. Kristy is originally from Pittsburgh, but the couple currently makes their home in Virginia. Not only did I feel apart of their family on Saturday, but I just had so much fun working with them, as their family!

I loved her fall pew bows! They were just stunning!
Kristy & Chris when the alter arrangements of the year award! They were the most gorgeous alter arrangements that I've seen so far this year!

Kristy and Chris were married at the Churchof the Resurrection Brookline and their reception followed at the Radisson Hotel in Greentreen.

Kristy & Chris chose to do a sweetheart table. Kristy decided to have the lights turned off, but I snapped this pic before I had them removed.

Kristy's dress reminded me so much of my own, and when I saw her in her limo bus, it brought back to many memories! Her great taste in clothes also followed through with the chocolate brown bridesmaid dresses. I loved her fall theme that was carried throughout her bouquets, centerpieces, and pew bows.

Instead of a traditional favor, Kristy and Chris chose to do a donation to the American Lunch Society in honor of her father. Kristy's father was there on Saturday, and able to walk her down the aisle, and dance with his daugther, it was gorgeous and brought many tears to my eyes. Kristy lost her father on Monday, October 20, 2008 to Lung Cancer. I am very saddened by this, and my thoughts and prayers are with Kristy and her family during this difficult time. Congrats to Kristy & Josh! This weekend took me to the celebration of Kristy & Josh, a delightful couple from Eastern Pittsburgh. They waited a long time for this day, and it was absolutely gorgeous! The weather could not have been more perfect!

I also had the great opportunity of working with Chris Gooden Photography. Chris is one of my FAVORITE photographers in Pittsburgh. Chris really pushes the boundaries and I love his unique style and personalization.

This is Kristy & Josh's daughter, Sarah, she was a ball of energy all day! I loved interacting with her and watching her facial expressions throughout the entire day! This was an adorable picture of her peeking out of the brides room at the church.

This is a memorial table that was set up at the golf course for Josh's Mom. It was a beautiful way to remember her.
Their favors were small Chinese take out box's filled with home made chocolate candies! YUM!

My Assistant, Angie did a fantastic job placing their place cards out!

This weekend I had the opportunitiy to work with Gina & Stew, a great couple who I ended up knowing through 6 degrees of seperation (I'm a true believer). They are a great couple who are very much in love! Plus their wedding was so much fun!

Here is a shot of all of the bouquet placed together at the back of the church. All of the floral arrangements were done by the Fragile Paradise.

Gina was a gorgeous bride with a dress from Anne Gregory for the Bride.

Here is a shot of the alter arrangements. I love the unique twist on a traditional arrangement.
The ceremony took place in this gorgeous traditional Catholic Church in south side. The inside was just gorgeous!

Following the ceremony, the guests headed to one of my new favorite locations J. Vernon Studios at 3030 Jane Street on the South Side. J. Vernon is a studio that you can rent for events such as weddings, fashion shows, commercials or photography. I love the unique aspects of the layout and guests LOVED the laid back non-traditional atmosphere. It was very contemporary and chic.

To add to the modern feel for the reception, Gina & Stew chose to do Stations for dinner. The food was catered by The Chadwick and was incredible! There was a salad and pasta station, a carving station with your choice of potatoes and veggies. I HIGHLY recommend doing stations, it's an unique and modern twist on the traditional buffet and guests seemed to LOVE the food.

Not only was their food tasty, but their cookie table was out of this world! They had so many yummy looking desserts!

I had the opportunity to work with some new vendors this weekend, including their DJ and Photographer/Videographer. They were great to work with and I'm always excitied to meet new professionals in the wedding industry.

The DJ, EVENTURES is the house DJ at J. Vernon. They offer a variety of lighting and visual effects throughout the evening including showing videos of the songs while people are dancing. They are very unique and played great music all night.

Jani and Tanya from Furnace Hill Photography were great to work with! They have a studio and offer a variety of services including pet, senior, weddings and other event photography. Seriously check them out, they have a great style!

Thanks Gina & Stew for letting me be a part of your wedding! It was so much fun and I hope that you have many great memories to last a life time!

PS I have to give a shout out to my friends Jen & Josh who were guests at the wedding! Hopefully someday I'll be helping to plan their wedding!

Best Wishes to Erin & Mike on their nuptials this past weekend! Great Expectation Events had the opportunity to work with this gorgeous couple from Washington, D.C. Their ceremony took place at the Duquesne University Chapel . Following the gorgeous ceremony guests arrived at the Carnegie Music Hall Foyer for the reception. I love hearing stories of how my couples met and this couple is no exception. Erin & Mike met while working together in the Washington, D.C. office of Congressman Mike Doyle.

Erin & Mike entered from the bottom of the room to start the evening off with their first dance. All of the guests were above looking down upon them sharing such a special moment. This was the most beautiful first dance I've ever seen! Very romantic!

This was a gorgeous box displayed for their cards.
Pictured here was their placecard table, which was set up by Mocha Rose Florist.

The full room set up was gorgeous. The chavari chairs added to the elegance of the room, while gorgeous floral arrangements sparked color on the floor length white table cloths.

The cake was decorated and displayed by the pastry chef at the Carnegie. The gum-paste flowers added so much to this gorgeous cake.

Best Wishes Nicole & Graham!

I was thrilled and honored to work with the most gorgeous and beautiful (inside and out) couple this past weekend. Nicole & Graham, originally from Pittsburgh, and graduates of CMU, are truly soul mates and this showed throughout the entire day on Saturday. Nicole & Graham are currently living in Las Vegas, NV, while Graham is working in the show Jersey Boys. Because Nicole & Graham were planning their wedding from out of town, I had the opportunity to work often with Nicole's mother, Fran. Not only were Nicole & Graham amazing, but their families were fantastic and great to work with. The wedding ceremony was held at Heinz Hall. Heinz Hall was a very sentimental location for the family because Nicole's parents were married in the exact foyer that Nicole and Graham were married in. Also Nicole's grandfather played in the Pittsburgh Symphony and also managed the Symphony for many years. He currently has a hall dedicated to him inside Heinz Hall. The Bride and Groom added many unique elements to their ceremony, including singing their vows to one another. This was beautiful and truly inspirational. Here is a snippet of the lyrics:

Following the ceremony, Nicole & Graham walked with their bridal party from Heinz Hall to the Duquesne Club for their gorgeous reception. Cocktail hour started off in the Fountain Room, which is a gorgeous room. Mocha Rose Florist did a beautiful job decorating the fountain with floating candles, roses and beautiful accents. Following cocktail hour, guests moved into the Duquesne Club's main dinning area. The linens and centerpieces were gorgeous and everything was well placed together. The cake was provided by Prantal's Bakery, and if have never had a Burnt Almond Torte from Prantal's, they you are not really living! They are to die for! The John Parker band did a great job of keeping the dance floor packed all evening! Graham even took the stage to sing "I Love you Baby" to his bride!

Words can not describe what a gorgeous couple Nicole and Graham are. I was honored and thrilled to be a part of their day, and for that I thank them!

It was a privilege and an honor to work with such a wonderful couple, Dan & Josselyn! When Josselyn first came to me over a year ago I knew this wedding would be challenging, beautiful and the most unique wedding I've ever came across!

Not only was this wedding unique and GORGEOUS, but this couple is so in love that they even made me shed a tear during their ceremony!

The theme and inspiration for this wedding was a Mid-Summer's Nights Dream. The overall style is lush, green, chocolate brown, forestry, with a touch of glam! I LOVED every detail about this wedding and I'm honored to share it with you!

Josselyn had some of the BEST wedding vendors in the Pittsburgh area, they are honestly some of my favorite vendors to work with!

They are the premiere lighting company in Pittsburgh! They had several individuals who stayed throughout the entire event to ensure that the lights were in place and on time! The lighting was so detailed that we actually had to bring in a generator to make the wedding happen!

Favors: Donation to Animal Friends, Pittsburgh -- Are you trying to think of a creative favor for your guests? Give them something they can truly appreciate! Josselyn and Dan made a donation to Animal Friends, a non-kill shelter in Pittsburgh. The donation was made in their guests honor and was appreciated throughout the evening because their table numbers were dedicated to numerous pets of friends and family.

Photobooth: Party Booths -- This was a HUGE hit at their reception. If you are looking for something unique and different for your guests, what better way than to have a photobooth. Guests were allowed to have as many pictures as they wanted throughout the evening. The Bride & Groom selected the background out of 4 possible colors. Then as soon as the pictures were snapped, they were printed right outside the booth. At the end of the evening, Josselyn & Dan received a CD with all of the pictures that were taken that evening. This was a HUGE hit!

Entertainment: Entertainment Unlimited -- In order to protray A Mid-Summer's Nights Dream, what better way than to have Puc there to celebrate along in the party! We hired 4 actors and actresses to protray particular characters from the play. They interacted with guests prior to the ceremony, and then throughout cocktail hour. They were a huge hit, and kept guests entertained throughout the evening.

This wedding was fun, unique and most importantly a reflection upon the bride and groom.

This past weekend, July 19, 2008 I had the best opportunity to work with a WONDERFUL couple, Tierra & Bart. I met Tierra over a year ago while she was in the beginning stages of her planning and it was so fantastic seeing everything come together on Saturday. First I have the prefance that Tierra is a gorgeous women inside and out, and I was delighted to work with her and her husband Bart.

They had a gorgeous Saturday afternoon and the weather couldn't have been better. Her colors were a gorgeous light blue and yellow, I loved the combination! Their reception was the best party I think I've ever been to! The dance floor was hoping and the DJ was really bringing out some great old school hits! Her vendors also helped to make her wedding day go smoothly!

This weekend was not only the 4th of July, but it was also Amanda & Steven's wedding! First I have to say that they are the best looking couple I've ever worked with! The two of them are the most attractive people! If I was asked to theme their wedding I would call it "New York Chic." Amanda was a gorgeous bride and had everything put together beautifully!

The color scheme was of lime green and chocolate and I loved how they looked together. I had a great time working with them! Their ceremony took me all of the way to a GORGEOUS church in Steubenville, OH. From there I headed to their reception which was at the Hyatt Airport Hotel. Overall the wedding was gorgeous and very chic! I wish them the best of everything life has to offer!

Their church was built in 1904-1906 and was just gorgeous inside! It reminded me of many Church's I visited while I was in Italy.

Here is a quick picture of the boutiners done by Allison McGeary. The flowers were gorgeous, fresh and creatively placed together.

I had the opportunity to decorate the church prior to the ceremony. Amanda had decided on these summer wreaths to be placed on the pews.

Amanda DIY'd these gorgeous tear packets. They fit her theme and all of the guests found them creative and unique.

Again here is a beautiful design by Alison McGeary. This branch centerpiece was placed inside of a beautiful golden vase that fit within the chocolate and lime green scheme. Amanda had rented chocolate and ivory linens and placed ribbons on the ivory linens to bring in the color. She also DIY'd her table Numbers with pictures of her dog!

Here is a close-up of the branch centerpiece. I loved how she used the candles in the arrangement.
Amanda also DIY'd several other tables herself. Here is the ivory linen with the brown ribbon to spice up the table. You can see the gorgeous candles and lime green rose petals.
Here is Amanda and Stephen's cake. It was provided by bethel bakery and was just gorgeous! I loved the simple but glamarous looks.
For the cocktail tables, Amanda decided on this unique vase filled with coffee beans! She then placed a simple votive candle inside of the vase. I thought this was a fantastic idea and the room spelled great!
Amanda and Stephen decided on a sweetheart table so that they could enjoy some alone time at their reception. I loved her details!

Anniversary Chicken Recipie

This recipe was posted several years ago in Glamour Magazine. Supposively if you make the chicken for your loved on, they will propose! Good Luck!!

anniversary chicken
:: boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cleaned and cut either bite size or in half (bigger pieces)
:: lawry's terriyaki marinade (i've tried others with this dish and this is the best)
:: ranch dressing
:: bacon bits (get the oscar meyer real bits ones)
:: scallions/green onions, chopped/diced
:: shredded cheddar cheese (i also use the mexican cheese mix by kraft)

pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees.
salt and pepper the chicken to taste. on a grill or in a pan, fry the breats on each side, cooking 95% through. in a foil-lined baking dish, pour some of the terriyaki sauce in the bottom to create a coating.

Place the cooked chicken pieces in the dish. pour about a tablespoon of terriyaki sauce on top of each piece. more or less as you so desire. follow with a tablespoon of ranch dressing on top of each piece. again, more or less as you so desire. sprinkle the bacon bits on top of each piece. next, sprinkle the cheese.

Finish off with the scallions. place the baking dish in the oven for ~15-20 minutes until the chicken is cooked through. serve immediately. beforehand, you could have the chicken cooked and the scallions cut. then you just have to throw it all together in the pan and then serve. if you have one of those cook and serve pans even better... if so, skip the foil lining in the pan since that doesn't look great on your buffet table!

Many of my brides make the creative and unique polaroid guest book. Well, unfortunately, Polaroid cameras are no longer made, along with the film! Many of my brides were upset that that would not be able to get their hands on this item. Well, I have news for them!!! The $150 camera is an inkless printer that churns out 2 x 3-inch photos sent to it via Bluetooth devices like cell phones, or from plugged-in digital cameras. It uses technology created by ZINK (Zero Ink) Imaging Inc. to activate paper-embedded dye crystals. It will be in stores on July 6th, 2008.

These questions have been asked by my wedding couples quite often. We found this article while searching for the proper etiquette online. May this be a blessing to all wedding attendees, as well as fellow coordinators!! I actaully go crazy with my out of town brides have 10 or more gifts!

The Wedding Gift Etiquette Guide by Lisa Scherzer

WEDDING GIFTS ARE big business — billions of dollars big. According to research firm The Wedding Report, this year alone guests will spend $6.9 billion on wedding gifts.

Each time an invitation arrives in the mail, wedding guests face a common and sometimes frustrating dilemma: What should I buy the bride and groom, and how much should I spend? Depending on the couple, where they live and their culture, giving cash is either considered apropos or gauche. And then there's always the quandary over the registry, especially when the only two options left are a $200 waffle maker and a $5 garlic press. After all, there's a fine line between breaking the bank to buy a generous gift and looking like a cheapskate.

The idea behind a wedding gift, according to etiquette doyenne Peggy Post, is indeed a noble one: "It is a tangible representation of love and support, a generous offering to help married couples get a head start in their lives together."

It sounds lovely, but for guests who don't know the bride and groom well enough to conjure up such a representation or are on a tight budget, here's a gift etiquette primer to get you through wedding season:

1. How much should I spend on a gift?

The amount you should spend on a gift is one of those gray areas that vary based on the wedding location, your age and your budget. A typical amount, says Betsy Goldberg, features editor at Modern Bride magazine, is $75. If you bring a date, expect to give a present worth double that. Don't be afraid to ask other attendees what they plan to spend to get a better sense of what people within your social circle are giving, she says.

Though the gift amount is somewhat arbitrary, Summer Krecke, deputy editor of WeddingChannel.com, offers a few guidelines based on the guest's relationship to the bride or groom: If it's your co-worker's wedding, you should spend $75 to $100; a relative or friend, $100-$125; and if it's your close friend or close relative, anywhere from $100 to $150 or more is acceptable.

2. What if I can't afford the $120 five-speed blender because I have four other weddings this month?

Most brides and grooms don't want you to go broke as a result of their wedding. Therefore, guests should always consider their budget constraints. If you've been invited to five weddings that take place within three months of one another, you'll need to take into account expenses for all those events (not just the gifts, but any required travel and lodging, as well). At destination weddings, for example, most couples understand that the $500 you shelled out to attend their Bahamas beach wedding doesn't leave you much to spend on a big-ticket gift. "They appreciate that people go so far to be with them for their wedding," says Goldberg.

Also, keep in mind that your gift obligations don't start and end with the wedding. Factor in the surrounding celebrations, like the bridal shower, the bachelor/bachelorette party and engagement party. Once you tally it all up, you'll probably feel like you need a second job to afford your loved ones' nuptials, making it all the more important you don't break the bank on one gift.

3. Should the amount I give depend on the price per dinner plate or how posh the venue is?

Quite simply, no. "Never think about it in those terms," says Martha Woodham, author of "The Bride Did What?! Etiquette for the Wedding Impaired." Instead, think about it this way: You're not expected to pay for your meal at a friend's dinner party, so why should you be expected to pay for a night of dinner and dancing at a wedding? A gift is separate from the party itself and should not be considered "the admission price to the wedding," says Woodham.

4. If I can't make it to the wedding, do I still give a gift?Yes. Ideally, says Woodham, guests give gifts to help the couple commemorate the occasion and start their new life together — and that should be the case whether a guest partakes in the wedding festivities or not. "If you care about the couple, you send a gift — not just because you were invited to the wedding," she says.

5. Is it always best to get a gift from the registry?

The great thing about wedding registries — and the reason why they're such a big business — is there's little risk involved. Brides and grooms tell you what they want, so you don't spend an afternoon shopping for the perfect espresso machine only to find out later that neither of them drinks coffee. With a registry item, "you know when they get it, they'll be happy and excited about it," says Woodham.

Since registry gifts veer toward the impersonal, Goldberg suggests including a note with the gift to make it less so. If you buy a couple that loves to entertain a cheese board, include a note that says something along the lines of: "We love coming over for your parties and thought this would be useful to you," says Goldberg. One bit of advice when buying from the registry: Shop early to make sure you have various price points to choose from.

6. Is it in poor taste to hand an envelope containing a check to the bride or groom during the reception?

Generally, a gift of cash or a check is acceptable — and, for the most part, welcomed. "I don't know of any bride or groom turning down a check," says Krecke. Most couples will put either the best man or a parent in charge of receiving and holding onto checks at the wedding.

What is inappropriate, however, is bringing a gift to the wedding — especially if it's a cumbersome 10-pound rice cooker. Many couples don't get married in their hometowns, so you make it more difficult for them to haul the gifts home post-wedding. Instead, send the gift directly to the couple's home address or to one of their parents several weeks before the wedding, says Krecke.

7. I can send them a gift later, right?

While it's fine to celebrate the special day with the couple and send a gift later — don't wait until well after the bride's written all her thank-you notes. Some people think "you can wait up to a year to give a gift," says Krecke. "We generally say anything more than six months is poor etiquette."

Remembering Loved Ones at Your Wedding

When a parent or other close relative has passed away, it's important to find an appropriate way to remember them without ruining the joyous tone of the wedding. After all, a wedding is a celebration, and while a missing parent or other special relative is certainly sad, it shouldn't overpower the wedding day.

Some ways to remember...

Set up a special small table at the wedding reception with a flower arrangement and a card saying “In memory of those loved ones who are not with us today” or more specifically, “In memory of Joan Smith, mother of the bride.” You could also put a picture of the bride or groom with the deceased person you are honoring.

At the wedding reception, display wedding pictures of family members, or pictures of loved ones with the bride/groom. This is a more subtle way of including the dead in your day.

Wear a piece of jewelry or article of clothing. (For example your mother’s wedding dress, your father’s cuff links, or your grandfather’s signet ring).

Carry the same flowers that your mother had in her bouquet.

At the end of the wedding program, it is appropriate to add a memoriam line. For example, you might write “Today we honor those who could not be with us, especially the bride’s stepmother Alison Janet Brooks.”

If the person who is conducting the ceremony is someone who knew the deceased relative, it might be appropriate for him/her to say something during the ceremony - particularly if they are saying a homily or other sermon-like speech. They might say "Today, we have come together to celebrate the love of these two people and the life they are building together. As many of you know, the groom's father recently passed away. And in times like these, it can be more important than ever to honor love and family. I know (groom's father) was so happy to see (groom) find the love he has with (bride). Although it would be easy for his recent death to make this a sad occasion, (Groom's father) would want to see you all so happy today,celebrating and full of joy. So today, let's remember how precious life is, and be thankful that (bride and groom) are creating a new family together."

Some other ideas could be but are not limited to:
Placing a locket with their picture in your bouquet
Leaving a seat empty on the front row to remember where they would have sat
Lighting candles for each loved one at the ceremony or reception
Placing one flower for each loved one in a single vase
Purchasing their favor from a charity (i.e. Lance Armstrong Bracelets)
Making a donation to their favorite charity in their guests honor

These charming save-the-dates prove good news can come in small packages, too. Purchase mini cards and envelopes (Motel Deluxe made these 2-by-3-inch sets). Run envelopes through a machine that adds adhesive backing (we used one from Xyron), and affix to postcards (either store-bought or cut from card stock). Handwrite or stamp your wedding information on the cards; tuck them in the envelopes, and seal. Add standard first-class postage, and you're set to announce you've set the date.

These are a great idea from Martha Stewart. It adds some flair to something so traditional and essential for today's weddings!

Vanishing Confetti

Showering the bride and groom with confetti as they exit the ceremony is a twist on a time-honored tradition, but it can create a mess. With biodegradable paper, the problem literally disappears: The confetti disintegrates once it gets wet. These tiny pieces come in all sorts of colors and shapes, including stars, bells, and hearts. Sew them inside glassine packets, and guests can tuck them away, then tear them open later.

Vanishing Confetti How-To
You'll need a 5-by-71/2-inch piece of card stock, 5-by-71/2-inch glassine sheets, a ruler, art paper printed with date and couple's names and cut into 3/4-by-6-inch strips, confetti, and a sewing machine.
1. To make a guide for folding glassine, fold card stock in thirds and crease. Lay glassine on card stock. Lay ruler in crease to help hold steady, and fold glassine.

2. Turn glassine over; center strip on top.
3. Sew one end shut (3/4-inch seam allowance). Fill with confetti. Sew other end.
4. Trim ends with scalloping scissors

Best Wishes to Tommy & Jody!

This past weekend, May 31st, I had the exciting opportunity to work with Tommy & Jody. A really delightful couple from the north hills. Tommy & Jody had their worked cut out for them, creating a tropical themed wedding. Although, by the end of the day I was exhausted, their wedding was so much fun!

Jody & Tommy really went all out to make sure that everyone had a great time, and that their theme was carried out through everything they did. Their invitations, place cards and table numbers were all Caribbean blue and offered the guest a sneak peak into what was in store at the wedding!

The bride maids wore a terrific color of blue, strapless t-length dress that I was in love with! While the bride glowed in a gorgeous princess, strapless gown. She was just gorgeous!!

Their centerpieces were the greatest! I set-up all 30 centerpieces! They consisted of a HUGE margarita glass, with a floral light in the bottom that changed colors from green, red, blue and yellow, two floating flowers, a figi mum (which I love) and a pink Gerber daisy. The glass was then adorned with a cute fresh cut lime! This centerpiece was economical, loved by the guests and actually really fun to put together!

Each guest also received a lei when they walked in the door, I was really surprised how each guest and bridal party members wore the lei's all night! They were a huge hit! The guests also received a 7oz. bottle of coronita as a favor! This was a HUGE hit, it not only fit their theme, but was a GREAT idea! I loved it!

Not only was the feel and look of the reception tropical, but the band and DJ also fit the bill!

Jody & Tommy hired Tom Watt, "The Buffett Man" as their wedding reception entertainment. Tom is a Jimmy Buffett double, both in look and in voice! He looks, sounds, acts, and dresses just like Jimmy Buffett! This band, was not only entertaining, but also so nice! Tom resembles Jimmy Buffett so much that he was actually his double in the movie "Hoot"! I HIGHLY recommend this band for your next event! The band did not just play Buffett music, but everything from Elvis, to Willie Nelson! They look and sound fantastic and the guests really enjoyed them! What was also great about this reception is that knowing that a band takes several breaks throughout the evening, Jody & Tommy also hired Dan Porco to DJ in between sets. I've been to many weddings with bands, and this was the BEST investment they made! They were able to have the band play and then in between sets the DJ took over to keep the party jumping. If you are having a band I HIGHLY recommend this option! I also recommend Dan Porco, he was great to work with, and has worked with Tom Watt before. When we started to plan our wedding, I knew that I was going to need major help reducing stress on the wedding day for myself, my Fiance, and our parents! I wasn't even aware that there were people out in the world who offered day of coordinator services. Tiffany became known to us by our florist, April. I am SOOO thankful that April recommended Tiffany's service to us. I don't know what we would have done without her on our wedding day. She was so friendly and professional throughout the entire process. She was always offering assistance, but her true event coordination talents showed at the rehearsal and on the wedding day. She is an elegant conductor, and always unobtrusive. She made the whole day flow so smoothly and I know that my parents were so thankful to have her there for the wedding. I would highly recommend her services!

On Sunday I had the pleasure of working with Stephanie & Fabian as they tied the knot at the Sheraton, Station Square. First I want to personally thank Stephanie & Fabian for letting me be a part of their GORGEOUS wedding day! May I also add that I think Stephanie & Fabian are the most gorgeous couple I've ever seen!

The Sheraton is one of my favorite hotels in Pittsburgh that overlooks the river. They have many rooms that can host a variety of meetings, parties and events. Overall I feel that the Sheraton did a great job working with Stephanie and Fabian. The couple had the opportunity to use one room to sign the Ketubah, then another room for their ceremony and finally the Reflections room for their reception. It suited the couple and their guests perfectly!

The Sheraton also upgraded their reception and served wine with dinner and then upgraded them again with free hour of bar services because of a mishap with the rooms. I know that Stephanie & Fabian were thrilled because of this excellent service!

Stephanie's dress was GORGEOUS and it suited her perfectly! I had a great time learning more about Jewish traditions and enjoying a great evening with some wonderful vendors:

Tuscane Themed Wedding

Maybe because of my recent trip to Italy, but I have been completey inspired by the idea of a Tuscane Themed Wedding. Tuscany is a GORGEOUS region of Italy and if you ever have the chance to go, you have to go! The thought of having a wedding there is so romantic, the vineyards and the cities offer so many wonderful opportunities for a romantic and intimate wedding.

Flashbox

You may be asking what is the latest and greatest thing to have at your wedding receptions. Well, there is not a day that doesn't go by that brides and grooms don't ask me about having a photo booth at their wedding. Photo booths are fun and yet still old fashion. The newest and greatest way to capture guests at your wedding might just be through Flashbox.

Flashbox, originally from Pittsburgh, is the newest technology in allowing your guests to leave creative and personal message through a stand-up video box. The box is non-intrusive and does not take up a lot of room.

Because they have multiple kiosks the company can accommodate most dates. They are able to be booked on very short notice, because brides and grooms are discovering our service every day and are so motivated to secure it for their weddings.
